Normalization adjusts gain so the loudest part of a clip reaches a target peak level. It's the fastest way to make several recordings feel the same loudness before you merge them or drop them into a video.
Unlike a simple volume slider, normalize looks at the peak of each file and applies the right gain automatically.
How it works

Tips for better results
- −3 dBFS is a safe default for web and social uploads.
- If a file is already very loud, normalize will reduce it rather than boost into clipping.
- For a fixed boost or cut in dB, use the Adjust Volume tool instead.
Is this the same as loudness (LUFS) normalization?
No — this is peak normalization. True LUFS matching needs a different algorithm; peak normalize is still enough for most creator workflows.
Will it clip?
It targets below 0 dBFS and soft-limits extreme boosts on near-silent files.
